Hearing the TeachingsIf you're interested in Buddhism are you looking for a teacher? Someone to remove the darkness of ignorance with words of wisdom? Well, people are inferior to things in their power to teach. The doctrine of teaching Buddhism by non-sentient beings is said to have originated by Nanyo (born 775 AD), a disciple of Zen Buddhism. And Buddhism has always been close to nature. What is it that rocks and streams teach us? They teach us that they teach us. They teach us their existence value, or what we call suchness. Their suchness. The suchness of all things. All teaching is thus non-sentient, non-intellectual, non-emotional. A human being teaches before he opens his mouth (what, in any case, he can never say). What is wrong with words is that they’re always late. So the saying, "When we hear with the eyes, then we know it" goes. It is better to hear with the eyes, which are early. It is a fact that the deeper we go the more expressive things become, the less dumb and silent. This is why sticks and stones as so political. So there are many teachings around us. May we hear them with our eyes. |
