Interfaith Activities

Many religions have what has been called the “Golden Rule.” Click here to see for yourself.

We support the work of the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago

This is what it says on their web site:
Like a church or temple we function in the lives of our community as a source of inspiration, information, meaning, and support--with several differences. Although we do celebrate weddings and conduct memorial services, we don't promote specific dogma or follow prescribed sets of rituals or doctrinal principles. A typical Sunday meeting would consist of a speaker or presentation focusing on current issues, ethical philosophy, lifespan education, or the arts.

Since our members come from Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, "mixed" and other backgrounds, we focus on the values people share in common, not the things that divide or keep us apart. Ethics are always at the center of our philosophical and educational core.

Religion and Ethics Newsweekly is a half-hour show focusing on news and in-depth reporting of issues related to religion and ethics around the world.

We recently participated in an interfaith vigil for tolerance. If you are interested in this issue, here are web sites we recommend you visit:

If you live in the Chicago area there is a good organization that needs your support Center for New Community

Nationally, we recommend you support the Southern Poverty Law Center

The Fellowship of Reconciliation has many events that you may attend.

This is what Thich Nhat Hanh said about them:
“I joined FOR because of the people who represented the Fellowship. They were really for nonviolent action and were penetrated deeply with the sense of humanism with which Buddhists are familiar. What makes the FOR meaningful to me is the presence of open-minded, deeply humanistic and creative people.”
—Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author, poet
Bodhi Leaf.

The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
The habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love,
Born of concern for all beings.
—The Buddha

AN AFFIRMATION FOR TOLERANCE:
We are African American, White, Latino/a, Native peoples...
We are of every race and nation; We are men and women
We are gay, lesbian, bisexual and heterosexual people;
We are of every religion, from every region of the world;
We are able bodied, differently abled and (dis\)abled.
We will stand up to discrimination, to bias, to violence.
We stand together expressing our unity and affinity;
Our connection to each other and to the divine;
Our hope for healing and for transformation...
Help us to transform and heal our communities
And let us begin by transforming ourselves.
